Message From Philip
Dear Friends:
I didn’t go to Iraq to fight for democracy, only to come home to an uncontested election for our Congressional seat. I am stepping forward so that there WILL BE an election in the 1st Congressional District. We dishonor the democratic process if we allow the Republican Party to anoint our next congressional representative at their convention.
I have entered this race READY TO RUN. I believe I can marshal the resources necessary to run a competitive race. I’ve been on a ballot before in a tough, close race and I know I bring the kind of background and beliefs that will appeal to voters in the 1st CD.
Our democratic system is suffering because of the lack of competitive Congressional races. Out of 435 House of Representatives’ seats, only about 60 will be competitive. Most congressional districts clearly favor one party or another. The 1st Congressional District is no different. What is different is the opportunity we have on December 11, 2007 to turn the tide.
This is an unusual election that will require an equally unusual candidate—one who can reach the voters of an entire Congressional District in only a month. I am already working hard and have many dedicated staff and volunteers helping me. I have received hundreds of encouraging e-mails from supporters, and fundraising has started in earnest. From all over the 1st CD, I am being reminded of why I made the decision to run.
Thank you for your support. Please check back often as this exciting race unfolds.
